Lore & Play

Licences & Attributions

Version 1.3 · Effective 28 July 2026

1.System Reference Document 5.2 (Wizards of the Coast)

Much of the rules reference, creature, spell, item and character-option content in Lore & Play is derived from the System Reference Document 5.2, made available by Wizards of the Coast under a Creative Commons licence.

This work includes material from the System Reference Document 5.2 ("SRD 5.2") by Wizards of the Coast LLC, available at https://www.dndbeyond.com/srd. The SRD 5.2 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode.

1.1 Modified material

Some SRD 5.2 content on this site has been modified. In particular, the Greek-language text of SRD 5.2 content is an unofficial translation made by Lore & Play, produced with machine translation and reviewed in part. It is not published or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast, and where the Greek and English texts differ, the original English SRD 5.2 text is authoritative.

Other modifications are limited to formatting, structure and presentation — dividing entries into records, adding search indexes, and rendering statistics in the interface.

1.2 What this licence does and does not give us

It gives us the right to use, reproduce, adapt and distribute the SRD 5.2 content commercially, provided we attribute it as above.

It does not give us any right to trademarks. "Dungeons & Dragons", "D&D", the dragon ampersand, "Wizards of the Coast", "Forgotten Realms" and related names and logos are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast LLC. They are not covered by the Creative Commons licence, and we have no licence, endorsement, sponsorship or affiliation.

Where we refer to those names, we do so descriptively — to say accurately what Lore & Play works with — and never as a name for our own product, source, or ruleset.

1.3 Disclaimer

Lore & Play is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored, or specifically approved by Wizards of the Coast LLC. Dungeons & Dragons, D&D, and their respective logos are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast LLC in the United States and other countries, used here for descriptive purposes only.

2.Daggerheart (Critical Role / Darrington Press)

Lore & Play supports character creation and play using the Daggerheart system.

This product includes materials from the Daggerheart System Reference Document 1.0, © Critical Role, LLC, licensed under the Darrington Press Community Gaming License (DPCGL). All rights reserved. For more information, please visit darringtonpress.com/license.

Disclaimer:

Daggerheart, Critical Role, Darrington Press and all related marks and logos are trademarks of Critical Role, LLC. Lore & Play is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Critical Role, LLC or Darrington Press.

As with the SRD, Greek-language Daggerheart text on this site is an unofficial translation made by Lore & Play. The original English text is authoritative.

3.D&D Beyond character import

Lore & Play offers a character import feature. Users import their own characters, from their own accounts, at their own initiative.

Lore & Play is not affiliated with D&D Beyond or Fandom, Inc. The import feature allows you to bring your own character data into Lore & Play. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to export and use that data. We do not access D&D Beyond accounts and we store no D&D Beyond credentials.

4.Third-party AI providers

AI features are powered by third-party providers. Content sent for AI processing is handled under the terms of the relevant provider. See the Privacy Policy §3.4 and §5.

OpenAI and the OpenAI logo are trademarks of OpenAI, L.L.C. Anthropic and Claude are trademarks of Anthropic, PBC. Google and Gemini are trademarks of Google LLC. Lore & Play is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of these companies.

5.Artwork

AI-generated artwork. Creature and NPC artwork in the Lore & Play library is generated using AI image models. The copyright status of AI-generated images is unsettled in many jurisdictions, including the EU and the United States, and such images may not attract copyright protection at all. We do not warrant exclusive rights in this artwork.

Sound effects. The page-turning and book sounds are from Kenney's "RPG Audio" pack by Kenney Vleugels (kenney.nl), released under Creative Commons Zero (CC0). We trimmed and converted them; no attribution is required, and we give it anyway.

User-uploaded artwork. You are responsible for having the rights to anything you upload. See the Terms of Service.

Lore & Play original artwork. The Lore & Play logo, wordmark, key art and interface design are © lorenplay.com. All rights reserved.

6.Our own trademarks

"Lore & Play" and the Lore & Play logo are trademarks of lorenplay.com.

7.User-generated content

Homebrew content you create in Lore & Play remains yours. You grant us a licence to host, display and process it in order to run the service, and to display it to other users if you choose to publish it. You may delete it or export it at any time. See the Terms of Service §5 for the full licence grant.

8.Open source

Lore & Play is built using open-source software, including Next.js, React, Prisma, Tailwind CSS and their dependencies, each under its own licence.

The [full list of components and their licences](/legal/dependencies) is published and regenerated from the software actually running on our servers — including transitive dependencies. If you need a licence text we have not linked, email legal@lorenplay.com.

No component of the service is licensed under the GPL, AGPL or a comparable strong-copyleft licence. Where a component carries a weak-copyleft licence (LGPL, MPL, EPL), we use it unmodified and it is named on that page.
